State of The Union

We went to Washington DC last week. While we were looking at the Nation's gems, I was again reminded of how important our country is, not only to us, but to the entire world. You might not recognize this as the Washington Monument because it is so tall and we were so close to the base, but indeed it is. The photographer had to lay on the ground just to get the entire monument into the picture.

This is a picture of me with my first-born son, John, and my youngest daughter, Susanna in front of the Department of the Treasury Building. It very close to the White House and a lot easier to use for a photographic backdrop than the wire fenced White House.

It was hard to walk past the White House with all the police officers everywhere and not think about the occupants inside who were getting ready for the State of the Union Address.

Many of you watched the “State of the Union” speech, but others may want to just read our analysis here. Instead of having to trudge through the entire 70 minute speech, I can save you a lot of time. Darrell Castle and I had a conversation to boil down the important facts.

There may be people on many different levels of interest, but anyone who lives in this country should care about understanding the philosophy of those in powerful positions and understanding the nature of politics.

We should care enough about our country to fight against falsehoods and ideology that can drive our country into an economic desert. It is important to speak out when leaders are trying to take us the wrong direction or when they push philosophies that will destroy our foundations.

I was inspired this week to see a composite of Ronald Reagan’s philosophy. If you just watched the State of the Union Address and want to see something positive that can help you regain your balance, click here:

“Free government requires active citizens.”

This is a photo of us at the World War II Memorial. We walked around to the part that honors those who fought from Missouri and had our picture taken there. It was a cold dark night, but the light in our State still shines brightly!
