Why We Fight

This is a picture we snapped on Thanksgiving Day with our son,
Captain Ben Davis.

Do you think the Country is getting better or worse?  Some people want to look the other way and ask us to wake them up when the dust clears.

Why is it that some people don’t want to be bothered by what’s happening in our world?  One person said she was just not interested in politics.  I can understand people with varying degrees of interest, but in order to be a good citizen, ignorance is not an option.

We owe it to those who come behind us to have a prudent concern over the affairs governing our society.  Some people don’t care about burglaries—-until it happens to them.  Some don’t care about heart attacks or strokes until they or a loved one has one.  There’s nothing like being hurt that will make people think about protecting themselves.  Until we see the connection of how things impact us and our lives, it may be hard to care.

When I was in the Missouri State Legislature, we loved it when the opposing side was absent for committee meetings or the general session.  That meant we could do more business and move much faster.  The same is true about our country.  The less we show up and pay attention, the faster our Country promulgates bad laws, embeds more Socialism and we lose our freedom.

Some people think political ignorance is a personality issue.  If it is a personality trait, we can conclude that some personalities are prone to worry and have a fragile understanding of God’s provision.  However, even in the worst of times, it is possible for everyone to trust the One who called us to be here at this time, especially those who claim to be Christians.

There is something everyone can do.  Not everyone can run for office, but even something as small as re-posting my newsletter makes a difference.  Speaking up at the “water cooler”, sharing good information on Facebook or helping a good candidate run for office will move the dial.  We all have an obligation to be the salt of the earth and to advocate, promote and popularize truth.  Everything is either moving the ball forward or backward.

Political news, even if it’s bad news, doesn’t ruin my day because I am trusting God to take care of me and counsel me in my calling.  Let me encourage you to do the same.  We can be informed, aware and remain steadfast in our resolve to push for more Constitutional government.

“Evil never moderates itself, it never takes a step backward, it is only stopped by good men who are willing to push back against it. If good men and women stand by and pretend that they don’t see it and allow it to progress unmolested, then it will only grow stronger and be harder to stop at a later time.”
