    Cynthia,

I wish you well in your endeavor and agree with your comments, especially regarding the slick non-answers by candidates – IF you can ever contact them personally. As noted, they are usually insulated by staff members who don’t really care what you think other than how it may affect the overall political clime within their world. It is amazing how if you write to most candidates, much less call, regarding a particular topic, if you receive an answer at all, it will be a prewritten response that most likely will have nothing to do with your question or position other than one or two of the words you used in your communique will have sparked their response. (What is really aggravating in Ohio is that the one elected official who has always responded with a cogent answer, even though it is almost always 100% opposite of my view on the subject, is ultra-liberal Senator Sherrod Brown.)

Along those same lines, as indicated by you, one has to listen carefully to what the candidate does say on issues. For instance, they will all claim to support and defend the Constitution but as you already know, they do not support what it says but what they think it says or even more to the point what they want it to say.

With respect to the Second Amendment, for instance, they will say they support the Second Amendment and the right for “law abiding citizens” to own guns for hunting and sport shooting. It is what they did not say that is critical because they do NOT support the right of citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves, their families, and against an oppressive and intrusive Government. They obviously do not support the unfettered right of law-abiding citizens to own and carry weapons unencumbered by anti-Constitutional laws such as Conceal and Carry Permits much less the right to carry (openly or concealed) in public places where firearms on individual and ordinary citizens are currently not allowed – such as the Post Office, among numerous other examples. What they do not believe is what we have in our Ohio Constitution Party Platform:

In concert with the National Constitution Party Platform on “Defense,” the Constitution Party of Ohio fully supports the concept of well-trained and highly organized volunteer civilian militias organized at the state level. Further, we fully support and encourage the restoration of unorganized militia at the state, county and community level in compliance with our patriotic and legal responsibilities as free citizens of these United States. As such, we wholeheartedly endorse the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution wherein the rights of the civilian citizenry to own and bear arms, undefined and indeterminate as to type, number, or capability, shall not be infringed.

If all of those who claim to support the Constitution and the Second Amendment truly did, Congress would already have done away with all the unconstitutional restrictions and our streets would be safer as all statistics demonstrate except those employed by most elected officials.

    Don Shrader, Chairman
    Constitution Party of Ohio

Thank you for your mention of the Locke and Smith Foundation, we make every effort to hold our elected accountable to the constitution(s). We hold no biases except that which is contained in the constitution.
