Well, here it is a year later and there hasn’t been a single comment on this podcast. So mine will probably never be seen or commented upon. Still, I cannot pass by without calling attention to Cynthia Davis’ comments on the Declaration of Independence. She says that “Actually, many people haven’t even read the Declaration of Independence …” She then goes on to mangle in the most incredible fashion one of the signal phrases in that document, to wit: “appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the RECTITUDE OF OUR INTENTIONS”. She grossly and incredibly pronounces the phrase as follows: the R E C I T I T U D E of our I N T E R I O R S, and then goes on to repeat the same illiterate phrase once again!!! Holy Christ, this person used to run a BOOKSTORE? It doesn’t speak well of the people who dwell down there in the Bible Belt, who already have a reputation for being only semi-literate at best, yet who claim that they’re going to be taking over the country for God. You won’t be taking over anything for as long as you continue to embarrass yourself with such egregious howlers as “the R E C I T I T U D E of our I N T E R I O R S.” If I hadn’t heard it with my own ears, I never would believe that someone could be so ill-spoken as to mispronounce such perfectly common words as RECTITUDE and INTENTIONS. So yes Cynthia, it is true: many people haven’t even read the Declaration of Independence, and even some who supposedly have–who have even held political office!– cannot figure out its words.
