Planned Parenthood

I had a chance to meet a true champion of life at a friend's house a few years ago. Cal Zastrow was driving through St. Louis and spent the night with a friend, Chris Clegg. Before he left the next day, we were invited over to fellowship together. Standing, from the left side is Cal's son, me, my husband, Bernie, seated we have Cal and then our son, Philip.

What’s the right response to the tragedy at the Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs?

Here’s an example of the wrong response: Planned Parenthood, the Mayor of Colorado Springs and Mike Huckabee further inflamed the discussion by calling this “an act of domestic terrorism”.  Just to get this in perspective, in Chicago, eight people were killed and 20 wounded over the same weekend.   Isn’t all murder an act of domestic terrorism?  Isn’t all murder a hate crime? At a time in history, it contributes nothing to our public discourse when people attempt to invent new definitions to take us to a deeper level of grief.

Here’s another example of the wrong response:  Hillary Clinton quickly seized the opportunity to exploit this tragedy to polarize the people when she declared, “We Stand With Planned Parenthood.”

Here’s the right response:  As the voice of those who know all human beings are made in the image of God and all life is sacred, we stand for life.   ALL LIFE.  Period. This is not about stirring up the base, fund raising or coalescing the activists.  Tony Perkins said it this way: “Pro-lifers want to end all brutality — whether it happens in a clinic foyer or a mother’s womb.”

Someone wrote this on Facebook:

“Today is not the day for me to see any snide remarks about “right-wingers” or pro-lifers or guns. We should all simply be grieving together that anyone-right, left, center, pro-life or pro-abortion, pro-gun or not, would do such a thing.”

We cannot allow this one random event to generate excuses for rude remarks against those who want to protect life.  This is another trick from the left to guilt us into silence about the wrongness of killing the unborn.  They want to punish us with shame and intimidation so that we will be afraid to speak the truth.

Only those who are out of touch with reality would think violence perpetrated on the unborn can be corrected by more violence.  Two wrongs don’t make a right.  Instead of allowing the media to intimidate us into silence, we need to understand and explain to others that there are more choices that can allow everyone to continue to live.

The answer is not to retreat.  There are non-violent ways to shut down abortion clinics.  On “Black Friday” 3,000 people came out to shut down commerce because they were upset with just one person being killed. Black Lives Matter, Jessie Jackson, the Revolutionary Communist Party and more came together to garner national attention.  Their strategy was to hurt retailers in the pocketbook and prove they are capable of shutting down commerce on the famous, “Magnificent Mile” area of Chicago—and they succeeded.  Can you imagine what would happen to abortion in our Country if those who care about justice for the unborn were as deeply committed?

Our willingness to engage in the abortion travesty is an indicator that we are loving, caring and compassionate.  We have the moral high ground.

This week on our Home Front podcast I interview an expert on how to be effective for the Pro-Life cause.  You will enjoy hearing how our guest, Cal Zastrow, navigates us through the murky waters.   As a small sample of Cal Zastrow’s gentle demeanor and clear message, watch this video:

WHAT YOU CAN DO…

1.) We have a new “Comment” button just above this section.  Please share your thoughts.  It may help others to hear your ideas as well.

2.) Consider helping your local Pro-Life champions.  I have stood outside three different abortion agencies praying, holding up signs or just simply encouraging others to stay strong in their efforts to be a conscience for their communities.  It will do your heart good to feel like you are doing something to make a difference.

3.)  We send a big thank you to all the kind and conscientious people who have donated to make it possible for us to produce our newsletter and podcast.  Because we do not have any other funding stream, your donation will be extremely helpful in our efforts to communicate.  Many people do not realize we are a volunteer entity and rely on their help and God’s leading to continue.  If you would like to help, please mail a check to:

What is your definition of terrorism? If the Colorado Springs shooter is a Muslim is there any question you would call him a terrorist?

Is there any chance that someday we will agree that it is just a little too easy for nuts like this to get their hands on lethal weapons? Just returned from a trip to Southeast Asia, including travel in 3rd world countries Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia. Felt safer in every one of those countries than I do here. And if you look at crime statistics they are dramatically safer. In Singapore, where there is almost zero gun ownership, there is also almost zero crime. Natives from these countries told me they had no interest in visiting the U.S. due to the violent crime rate. Why do we continue to let the gun lobby continue to have control over this issue? Polls show that most Americans support legislation to make it more difficult for crazies to get their hands on weapons, yet we continue to vote for candidates who are proud lifetime members of the NRA and against considering any regulation at all. What’s next-everybody has the right to their own nuclear weapon. It is time to start voting for someone other than those who are in the pocket of the NRA crowd.

Thank you, Cynthia. I don’t believe this is a gun issue but a sin issue. We appreciate your clarifying how we should and shouldn’t respond to tragedies like these.
