“Talking Points” Meeting

There is nothing better than getting straight answers to your questions and there is nothing more efficient than to ask those who are representing you everyday in your government.  In case you missed the meeting, below are photos and comments.

This week U.S. Congressman Todd Akin joined me for my Talking Points meeting at the Middendorf-Kredell Library.  About 35 people attended and we had a great time answering questions.  It was “The Todd and Cynthia Show”.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it so much; perhaps we ought to make this an annual event.

I introduced my audience to the congressman by saying, “These are some of the most informed citizens in the entire country because they get my Capitol Report.”

Thanks to all who came out we had a very productive exchange of thoughts and ideas for how to take care of our citizens.  Also, a big thanks to our congressman who took time out of his busy schedule to come and make the residents of District 19 feel important.

If you missed the Talking Points meeting last Monday and want to see some snippets, below are two video-clip links filmed by an attendee.  The sound quality is not good, but you can view a small part of our discussion over the national healthcare bill.  In the first video, I am asking the congressman about how the proposed healthcare bill may affect our rights to determine acceptable standards for care in Missouri.  We need to know if the national government will be less inclined to feed and hydrate those who are disabled should they take over the healthcare industry.

The next Talking Point meeting will be October 28, 7-8 p.m., With Missouri Budget Chairman, Representative Allen Icet, at Park Place Senior Living, 2002 Boardwalk Place Dr., O’Fallon.   Note: this is a previously announced meeting which was to be held October 23 and is now rescheduled for October 28.

Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills Conference

Representative Davis (fifth from right front row) was one of 22 state leaders from 16 states selected to attend this prestigious leadership conference.  This is a photo of the group at the home of the President of West Virginia University.  I was nominated by the leadership of Missouri to attend and am honored to be awarded this scholarship.

Missouri Supreme Court Justice Zel M. Fischer (left) with Representative Davis at the West Virginia University Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills (CALS) conferenceWhat I like most about Justice Fischer is that he truly understands the proper role of judges.  It is so refreshing to know there are some judges who are interested in interpreting the law, not modifying the intent of the legislature by inventing new meanings of words to fit their personal philosophies.

A Little Bit of Humor . . .

Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really upset.

She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!"

The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.

Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house.

She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.

Bob has been missing since Friday!
