Missouri State Fair

 State Fair Barn

It was such fun to attend the Missouri State Fair last week during Legislators 'Day. Here I am in the dairy barn with my son Philip who milked a "simulated "cow.

The Missourian agriculture industry produces $32 billion in positive economic impact to our state.

While enjoying the fresh air and blue skies at the fairgrounds, I had a surprise visit with our newest U S Congressman, Blaine Luetkemeyer.  I told him he should expect to receive a letter I sent him expressing my feelings on the national healthcare mandate bill under consideration in congress.  If you would like to see that letter, click on this link:   Letter to Congress

MO DOT Update

Missouri Department of Transportation is starting a number of improvements around our area.  While we all like to have clean new roads to drive on, the construction is the price tag for these improvements.  Here is a list of what you can watch out for over the next few weeks:

The traffic will be restricted around the I-70 outer road between Route K/Route M and Route 79 in O'Fallon to repave the outer roads. Work on this $1 million project also includes pavement repairs and improvements to the Route K/Route M interchange. Crews will add a turn lane from the eastbound outer road to southbound Route K and add new turn signals to the I-70 ramps and the outer road. Work will continue until mid- to late September. There may be temporary lane restrictions on the outer road, Route K or the I-70 during this construction work.

After the crews finish the Route K/Route M improvements, crews will repair and repave the I-70 outer road between Route K/Route M and Route 79. This work, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. weeknights, will require crews to close one lane of traffic on the outer road.  They will use flaggers to direct traffic during this repair and repaving work.

Currently the two far right lanes of eastbound I-70 will be closed for bridge inspection. The lane closures will occur from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday through September 2. During these lane closures, access to eastbound Interstate 70 from the 5th street on-ramp in the city of St. Charles will be closed for safety.  Motorists are advised to use Veterans Memorial Parkway west to Route 94 to go eastbound on I-70. Message boards and signs advising motorists of the detour will be in place.

Plan ahead to avoid work zones, call 1-888-ASK-MODOT or visit the MODOT website: www.modot.org. Travelers can also get up-to-the-minute traffic information on interstates or major state routes by dialing 5-1-1 from most cell phones; if 5-1-1 isn't available from your carrier, please dial 877-478-5511 (877-4STL-511).

A Little Bit of Humor

My son "Ben of Arabia " and granddaughter, Grace, are out to fight for justice at the Missouri State Fair. Water was scarce!  (This photo was taken at the fair, but was enhanced with PhotoDraw software.)
