Want to See My New Grandchild?

When my first five children were in their gestational state, ultrasound technology was not routinely used.  The world is certainly a different place today.  After having to wait until the birth to find out if I had a boy or a girl, you can imagine how interested I was when I was offered the opportunity to see my sixth and seventh babies before their birth.

This is the first image we have of our second grandchild, who is on schedule to be born in June.  Doesn’t she look peaceful and happy? (as well as grateful to have such nice grandparents?)

When a woman is going to have an abortion, ultrasounds are routinely done by the abortion clinic to determine:

  1. If there is a baby,
  2. Where the baby is located, and
  3. What type of abortion would be the best choice for a baby of that size and gestational age.

Medical technology is allowing us to know more than ever before, and it is appropriate for patients to be offered access to that information.

Therefore, I sponsored a bill, HB46, that allows the mother to see an ultrasound picture of the baby if she wants to do so before an abortion.  If the mom doesn’t want to see it, that is fine, but she should be the one to make that decision.

To summarize parts of HB46,

  1. The patient who is paying for a medical test of any sort should have access to the information gathered from that test.
  2. Women are smart enough to handle the truth.  If this is a real person, let them see the baby at the same time the professionals are looking at him or her.

Here are some facts on the benefits of ultrasound being offered to the patient:

Option Ultrasound

Twelve States Have Laws in Place.

Years ago, many women seeking abortions were told the baby was nothing but “a blob of tissue.”  Because this is not a medical definition, you could also say everybody reading this is “a blob of tissue.”  However, when a blob of tissue has a beating heart, arms, legs, a head and its own genetic code, the mother should have the opportunity to see what the abortionist is permanently removing from her life.

Your thoughts are important to me, so please let me know what you think about allowing mothers to see the ultrasound image of their baby before an abortion.  You can send me your opinion by clicking here:  Cynthia Davis

The Glory of Missouri Awards

Immaculate Conception of Dardenne

Students from the Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Dardenne Prairie traveled to the State Capitol recently to be honored for the virtuous qualities they have displayed both in school and in their communities. Representative Cynthia Davis, R-O’Fallon, presented 14 students with Glory of Missouri Awards on Tuesday, February 3 in the House Chamber.  Janet Eaton, school Principal, accompanied the students.

The Glory of Missouri Award Program is designed to recognize fourteen students per school. Each student honored represents one of the virtues of good government engraved on the walls of the House Chamber.  The virtues include knowledge, liberty, equity, law, justice, fraternity, education, progress, honor, truth, virtue, temperance, enterprise and charity.

“I am so proud of these students for being not only outstanding students but also for taking an active role in our community,” said Rep. Davis.  She added, “By aspiring to live up to the ideals espoused by the 14 virtues of good government, these young people have proven themselves to be worthy of our praise and admiration.  I am thrilled to be able to recognize each of them with a Glory of Missouri Award.”

Students presented with awards were nominated for the honor by faculty and staff at their school.  Each student was presented with a House Courtesy Resolution, which is a formal document designed to recognize an outstanding person or achievement.

The following students were recognized for their virtuous behavior:

Knowledge - Josie Bunton

Liberty - Emily Monroe

Equality - Kali Maus

Law - Ryan Goggins

Justice - Jacob Schlueter

Fraternity - Keith Hazel

Education - Kristian Collie

Progress - Maggie Richard

Honor - Aidan Begley

Truth - Jeromy Brauner

Virtue - Courtney Moeslein

Temperance - Maddy Kuhlenberg

Enterprise - Gabbie Fales

Charity - Zach Atchison

The Progress of The

Freedom of Choice Act Resolution

Last week, the House of Representatives passed the resolution asking the U.S. Congress to reject the Freedom of Choice Act.  Here is a video that shows part of the discussion:  Missouri House Adopts Resolution.  We spent four hours debating the resolution, so most of the discussion was cut from the video.  However, when you see the board showing the topic, you can clearly see HR 212, which I sponsored, and which you read about in my recent Capitol Report (Freedom of Choice Act).

It is important to get as many involved as possible to get an idea over the finish line.  The resolution has been sent to Washington, D.C. to Missouri’s congressional delegation.

File Size: 441 KB A man and wife entered a dentist’s office. The wife said, "I want a tooth pulled. I don't want gas or Novocain because I'm in a terrible hurry. Just pull the tooth as quickly as possible."

“You're a brave woman,” said the dentist. “Now, show me which tooth it is.”

The wife turned to her husband and said, "Open your mouth and show the dentist which tooth it is, dear."
