Pre-Filing Opens for the Next Session

Filename: BD07043_.wmf
Keywords: congressmen, government, ideas ...
File Size: 30 KBIn case you are wondering what I am working on while the legislature is out of session, this is the first week that legislators can pre-file bills.  Here is a link to an article that appeared this week in the Columbian Missourian that features my bill, dealing with abortion issues, at the top of the legislative agenda for this year: Legislature Pre-Filing.

Another article on this subject appeared in the St. Joseph news:  2009 Legislative Session.

Where Is Representative Davis

This Week?

I am in Washington D.C. at a policy meeting sponsored by the American Legislative Exchange (ALEC).  My chiropractor asked me why I was going.  I told him “to change the world.”  That may be too much of an over-generalization, so here are the specifics:

I have been appointed to the Health and Human Services Policy Task Force for ALEC. We craft model legislation and share ideas of what works in other states so that we can all be more effective and efficient in bringing forth good public policies.  In addition to this, Grover Norquist, founder of the organization, Americans for Tax Reform, has invited me to meet with a small group of think tank staff and other key legislators to discuss how we can protect the taxpayers.  December always seems like an inconvenient time to go out of town, yet I have learned that it takes work, time and energy to stay on top of the latest issues and emerging trends.

Although I am gone, I faithfully read every reply I receive from my Capitol Report. Communication is the most vital function of my office, and your response to my proposals is very helpful in determining the priorities of my legislative agenda.

O’Fallon Recognized As One of America's Safest Cities

Population: 72,477
Located in St. Charles County

The results of the CQ Press annual Safest City Award rankings are in - and our own O’Fallon ranked as the third safest city among the 397 American cities that were ranked. O'Fallon is 82.05 percent below the national crime rate average.

The report ranks cities in six different crime areas: murder, rape, burglary, robbery, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft. The end result of these rankings was used to compile the list of the safest cities in America. In case you are wondering, Ramapo, New York was judged the safest.  However, its climate is far worse than ours and its cost of living is much higher, so let’s just stay in O’Fallon.  This designation is a tribute to our citizens.  For me, it is an honor to represent such a fine city.

St. Louis:

One of the Most Dangerous Cities

On the other hand, the results of this study rated St. Louis as the fourth most dangerous city overall.  In population,  it ranks second.

New Orleans ranked as the most dangerous city.  I went to New Orleans a little over a year ago and remember asking a state highway patrol officer if I was in any real danger.  He said as long as we stay in groups of 6-8 people and don’t deal any drugs, we should be all right

While most of St. Louis might be safe, pockets of high crime offset the areas where people respect the lives and property of others.  Ultimately, the more virtuous we are, the more freedom we enjoy.

A Little Bit of Humor…

After the christening of his baby brother in church, Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car. His father asked him three times what was wrong.

Finally, the boy replied, “That preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, and I wanted to stay with you guys.”
